Online Shopping Conversations, Target Brand Equity, Poshling Launch

According to a new study released by ListenLogic, nearly 25% of shopping conversations are posted online from consumers within the store.
This is an increase from Q4 2010, when nearly one out of six comments were made while in the store.

Stats & Research

  • Target Stores has the strongest consumer brand equity among retail brands, and the company was named as the 2011 Harris Poll EquiTrend® Value Retail Brand of the Year.
  • According to NRF’s 2011 Easter Consumer Intentions and Actions survey, conducted by BIGresearch, the average consumer is expected to spend $131.04 on everything from candy to clothes – up from last year’s $118.60 but not quite to pre-recession levels.
  • The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) reported that 786.7 million scheduled passengers traveled on US airlines and on foreign airlines serving the US in 2010, up 2.1% from 2009 but 3.2% below the level of 812.3 million in 2008.

Store Openings & Closings

  • Bed, Bath & Beyond said it expects to open 45 new stores this year across its banners , which also include Christmas Tree Shops and buybuy Baby, and expects to continue renovating and relocating existing stores.

Business & Finance

  • McDonald’s plans to hire 50,000 people across the US from 5 a.m. April 19 to midnight that day for “National Hiring Day.”
  • The Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) is planning to continue operations even if the US government shuts down.

International Expansion

  • About 74.2 million square feet of new European shopping center space is scheduled for completion by year’s end.

Legal & Regulatory

  • With the announcement on Wednesday that it has extracted labor rights concessions from Colombia to advance a trade deal, the Obama administration is now two-thirds of the way toward meeting Republican demands that three languishing trade agreements be sent to Congress for approval.
